JAMB Blacklists 76 CBT Centres, Appoints SAN To Prosecute Malpractice Suspects

Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board has disclosed that about 76 Computer Based centres have been delisted following their involvement in various irregularities and Malpractice in the recently concluded Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination, raising fears that results from those centres may be cancelled.

The Registrar of JAMB Prof. Is-haq Oloyede, disclosed this on Friday in Abuja while speaking on ‘Admissions into tertiary educational institutions in Nigeria’ at the 23rd annual seminar of the Nigerian Academy of Education.

Concerning when the 2019 UTME Results will be released, Oloyede did not give any day the 2019 UTME results would be released.

He equally stated that the board has appointed a Senior Advocate of Nigeria to prosecute about 100 persons allegedly involved in various malpractices during the UTME that held between April 11 and 18. He however did not mention the name of the SAN leading the prosecution reportedly for security reasons.

Oloyede, narrated how some of the malpractices their Closed Circuit Television Cameras caught exam cheats in some CBT centres, saying professional writers hid in toilets and later replaced the UTME candidates who pretended they went to the toilet to ease themselves.

Oloyede further revealed that the outcome of its probe into examination fraud between 2009 and 2019 will shock many Nigerians as there are many highly placed politicians in Nigerians who did not take the UTME exam by them selves.

Oloyede said although the board may not be able to punish the culprits because they have already left the system, it would go ahead to publish their names in order to shame them.

JAMB Likely To Cancel 50% of UTME Results Over Malpractice

There are strong indications that the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board may cancel half of the results of the 2019 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination in some states. This was revealed to newsmen by a senior official of JAMB who does not want his name to be mentioned. The official expressed disgust over the massive level of exam malpractice he said was recorded in the 2019 UTME.

According to the source, while all parts of the country were involved, the situation seems worst in certain states with what he described as “fearless display of fraudulent tactics by some individuals including parents and centre owners.” .
JAMB Likely To Cancel 50% of UTME Results Over Malpractice

He said Nigerians will be shocked if they are allowed to view the recordings of the CCTV Cameras from about 700 centres used during the examination.

“Those people, I trembled when I saw the magnitude of malpractice they perpetrated, in spite of the technological measures JAMB took. I don’t know what we can do again”.

“If you look at the CCTV camera recordings, you would now wonder whether these people thought we were just joking when we insisted on installation of CCTV cameras. I am sure they didn’t believe us because anybody that had believed us would not have tried what they tried in those places.” The source said

Already, JAMB has announced the cancellation of all results in two of its centres in Abia State.

The two affected centres, Heritage and Infinity CBT Centre and Okwyzil Computer Institute Comprehensive School, Ugwunabo, Aba, were summarily suspended and all candidates who sat for the examinations at the centres were reallocated to other nearby centres.

The official equally stated that many JAMB workers who were part of the conduct of the examination in the affected centres will face severe punishment as there is no way such level of fraud and malpractice will go on in these centres without their connivance

Concerning when the examination results would be released, the source said the results will be released by Friday.

“We were thinking we would finish on Wednesday but we couldn’t. When people post comments on the delay in the release of results, we only keep quiet because they don’t know what we know. If you see the level of malpractice, you would be shocked. But am sure by Friday, the board should be able to release the results,” he said.

Nigerian Stabbed To Death By Car Robbers In South Africa

”They had negotiated the price and agreed to buy; late Henry had produced all necessary documents to seal the deal when suddenly the local buyers said they wanted to test-drive the car first before paying. As they drove out, he suddenly realised that they were robbers as they demanded for the key of the car. They attacked him and stabbed him several times; they took the keys but could not manage to drive away the car."

His plane, a Boeing 737 Business, left Standsted Airport in London at about 12:20pm.
by SaharaReporters, New York May 05, 2019

President Muhammadu Buhari has departed London, United Kingdom, for Nigeria after his "private visit" that sources have confirmed was a medical trip.

His plane, a Boeing 737 Business Ajet with registration number 5N-FGT, left Standsted Airport in London at about 12:20pm.

On April 24, Buhari had left the country for London without handing over as constitutionally required to the Vice President.

The "private visit" was a day after the President visited Lagos to commission projects, including the 10-lane Oshodi–Murtala Muhammed International Airport Road, the 170-Bed ‘Ayinke House’ (Maternity Hospital)) at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH), Ikeja; the Oshodi Transport Interchange and 820 mass transit buses.
